International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL) is an organisation in the field of English language learning and teaching. It is based in Britain and was founded in 1967 as ATEFL (it became ‘International’ in 1970), [ 1 ] by W. R. (Bill) Lee, who also served as the organisation's first Chairman until 1984.
BBC Learning English is a department of the BBC World Service devoted to English language teaching. The service provides free resources and activities for teachers and students, primarily through its website. It also produces radio programmes which air on some of the BBC World Service's language services and partner stations.
The Primary English Magazine and The Secondary English Magazine, published by Garth Publishing Services, were also sent to NATE members in those sectors until the end of 2006 when NATE launched its own practical teaching magazine NATE Classroom (2007–2012). English Drama Media and NATE Classroom amalgamated into Teaching English in 2013.

This has implications for language learners and teachers, for instance the purpose of L2 learning is to become a multicompetent user of more than one language, not to become a copycat of a native speaker of another language; the native speaker is not the best L2 teacher; L2 learners are allowed to use their first language in the classroom.
