Sears, Roebuck and Co., commonly known as Sears (/ s ɪər z / SEERZ), [6] is an American chain of department stores founded in 1892 by Richard Warren Sears and Alvah Curtis Roebuck and reincorporated in 1906 by Richard Sears and Julius Rosenwald, with what began as a mail ordering catalog company migrating to opening retail locations in 1925, the first in Chicago. On December 18, 2011, Sears Holdings Corp closed the Broomfield, CO store. [5] On February 23, 2012, Sears Holdings Corp. announced it would be closing the remaining nine stores. [6] On July 8, 2012, Sears Holdings Corp closed the Lone Tree, CO store. [7] On August 14, 2019, the Sears Outlet operating in the former Great Indoors in Novi, MI closed.
