Stanley is a city in Mountrail County, North Dakota, United States. It is the county seat of Mountrail County. [5] The population was 2,321 at the 2020 census, [3] making it the 22nd largest city in North Dakota. Stanley was founded in 1902. The town's economy is heavily connected to the nearby oil-rich Bakken Formation.
Mountrail County is a county in the northwestern part of North Dakota, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 9,809. [1] Its county seat is Stanley. [2] The county was originally created in 1873, then removed in 1892, annexed by Ward County. It was re-created and organized in 1909.
The Cozy Cone Motel design is the Wigwam Motel on U.S. Route 66 in Arizona [75] [76] [77] with the neon "100% Refrigerated Air" slogan of Tucumcari, New Mexico's Blue Swallow Motel; [78] the Wheel Well Motel's name alludes to the restored stone-cabin Wagon Wheel Motel in Cuba, Missouri.
Tours of the cabin are held from mid June-Labor Day. The rest of the year, the cabin is self-guided. The original location of this cabin was several miles away. Because of its smaller size the cabin was able to be moved around the state on a public tour, but was relocated to the current site after restoration.
The Mountrail County Courthouse in Stanley, North Dakota was built in 1914 and served Mountrail County as its courthouse continuously since then. It was designed by architects Buechner & Orth in what can be termed Academic Revival architecture and/or Late 19th and 20th Century Revivals architecture.
