The station is currently owned by the University of Toledo. In 1969, the "TU" radio station went by the call letters of WERC on an AM frequency of 680KHz (later 600Khz). In 1975 WERC was carried on Buckeye cablevision's Cable FM audio service on 90.1 CAFM and later 106.1 CAFM prior to moving to FM in 1988 and sharing the TPS frequency of 88.3 MHz.
In 2000, after a long history as a student organization sponsored by the University of Toledo's Dean of Students Office, the editorial staff sought independence. This allowed the paper to keep and use its ad-sales revenue. The newspaper began operation as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, the Collegian Media Foundation. [6]

The trusses also support the arena's public address and ventilation systems, a catwalk system for service and maintenance, and the arena's center-court scoreboard. The arena is named for John F.
