The 1955 Preakness Stakes was the 80th Preakness Stakes overall and it was held on May 28, 1955, at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. Nashua, ridden by Eddie Arcaro and trained by James E. Fitzsimmons won the race, [1] outrunning Saratoga who finished second. [2] Traffic Judge, who was trained by Woody Stephens finished third. [3]
Nashua was the betting favorite to win the 1955 Kentucky Derby but was beaten by the second choice, Swaps. [3]In the 1955 Preakness Stakes, second leg of the Triple Crown, Swaps did not run and Nashua won by a length over a surprisingly strong challenge by Marion duPont Scott's colt, Saratoga.
