The Princess Royal officially opened Leicester College's flagship Abbey Park Campus on 12 May 2009. [citation needed] The royal visit marked the culmination of an ambitious £48 million accommodation project which also saw the College complete extensive building works at its Freemen's Park Campus, as well as refurbishment of St Margaret's Campus.
The building was home to most of the university departments until purpose-built accommodation was created. [3] It was renamed the Fielding Johnson Building in 1964 and has since become the main administration building of the University of Leicester. [3] The building now houses the faculty of law and the faculty of criminology. [4]
