Harrison Garside (born 22 July 1997) is an Australian boxer. [1] He competed in the men's lightweight event at the 2020 Summer Olympics where he won the bronze medal. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] This marked the first time in more than three decades that an Australian medaled in boxing at the Olympics.
He won bronze at the 2022 European Championships and 2023 European Games, earning a spot at the 2024 Summer Olympics in the 63.5kg class, where he defeated 2020 Summer Olympics bronze medalist Harry Garside in the Round of 16, before being eliminated in the Quarter Finals against eventual silver medalist French boxer Sofiane Oumiha. The only returning medalist was Harry Garside, but he lost in the round of 16. Erislandy Álvarez won the competition, becoming the Olympic champion. Sofiane Oumiha , who was also the 2016 silver medalist, won the silver medal, and Wyatt Sanford and Lasha Guruli became the bronze medalists.
This will be the 26th appearance of the men's lightweight event. The event appeared at the first Olympic boxing tournament in 1904 and has been held at every Games with boxing (that is, excluding 1912) since.
The men's lightweight boxing competitions at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia took place between 5 and 14 April at Oxenford Studios. Lightweights were limited to those boxers weighing less than 60 kilograms.
