George Frideric Handel was the house composer at Cannons from August 1717 until February 1719. [1] The Chandos Anthems and other important works by Handel were conceived, written or first performed at Cannons. Cannons was a large house in Middlesex, the seat of James Brydges, 1st Duke of Chandos who was a patron of Handel.

Jean-Baptiste Lully [a] (28 November [O.S. 18 November] 1632 – 22 March 1687) was a French composer, dancer and instrumentalist of Italian birth, who is considered a master of the French Baroque music style. Best known for his operas, he spent most of his life working in the court of Louis XIV of France and became a French subject in 1661.
