Supercross racing classifications are governed by the displacement of the motorcycle's engine. They were based on two-stroke engines until 2006, when four-stroke engines replaced two-stroke engines. From 2007 until 2012, a formula nomenclature similar to IndyCar was used, with the 450cc class known as Supercross and 250cc as Supercross Lites.
The season began on January 8 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, running until the final race in Salt Lake City, in late May. [2]In round 3 at San Diego, Chase Sexton and Michael Mosiman each won their first events in the 450cc and 250cc classes respectively.
Stewart returned for Anaheim 1 at the start of the 2016 Supercross season. However, in the main event a first lap mishap by Ryan Dungey caused Stewart to crash. Stewart was knocked unconscious and suffered a concussion. Stewart missed the next two rounds coming back at 2016 Oakland supercross. He would race sporadic for all of 2016.

Shane McElrath (born 11 August 1994) [1] is an American professional Motocross and Supercross racer. McElrath is a two-time FIM Supercross World Champion, winning the SX2 class in 2022 and 2024. [2] He has ridden as a professional in the AMA Supercross Championship and AMA Motocross Championship since 2013. [1]
