In common usage and linguistics, concision (also called conciseness, succinctness, [1] terseness, brevity, or laconicism) is a communication principle [2] of eliminating redundancy, [3] generally achieved by using as few words as possible in a sentence while preserving its meaning.
It's fine for the Manual of Style to prescribe things when there's no clear rule that has emerged from practice, but if things are basically always done a particular way in practice, I don't think it's appropriate for the Manual of Style to try to prescribe an alternative. Quotations must be verifiably attributed, and the wording of the quoted text must be faithfully reproduced. This is referred to as the principle of minimal change. The lead should stand on its own as a concise overview of the article's topic. Videos can also be more concise ("tighter").
