Michael Ellman Soulé [1] (May 28, 1936 – June 17, 2020) [2] was an American biologist, known for his work in promoting the idea of conservation biology. Soulé was born in San Diego, California, the son of Berenice (Ellman) and Herman Herzoff. His father died when he was two, and he was adopted by his stepfather Alan Soulé. [1]
In 2005, he was a winner of a Whitley Award for outstanding leadership in nature conservation. He used this award to found the Agumbe Rainforest Research Station in Karnataka, for the study of king cobras and their habitat. For his work in wildlife conservation, he received the Padma Shri award in 2018 by the Government of India. [2]

Rachel Louise Carson (May 27, 1907 – April 14, 1964) was an American marine biologist, writer, and conservationist whose sea trilogy (1941–1955) and book Silent Spring (1962) are credited with advancing marine conservation and the global environmental movement.
Their mother, Carolyn Jackson Craighead, was a biologist technician. [6] Their sister, Jean Craighead George , wrote books with nature and environmental themes for children and young adults, including the award-winning books My Side of the Mountain (a Newbery Honor Book) and Julie of the Wolves (the 1973 Newbery Award winner) .
