Gildo Kassa is an Ethiopian dance music composer, songwriter, and singer.He is known for writing and producing songs for young artists, and is known for his 2019 single "Lageba New", [a] which was included on Al Jazeera's "ultimate year-end African music playlist" in 2019.
Some Ethiopian religious music has an ancient Christian element, traced to Yared, who lived during the reign of Emperor Gebre Meskel (Son of Kaleb of Aksumite Empire) in the 6th century. The Paris-based world music record label Buda Musique began the Éthiopiques series in 1997 and initially compiled Ethiopian popular music releases from the 1960s and 1970s. Some of the subsequent CDs focus on traditional music, while others highlight individual musicians or specific styles. As of 2017, there have been 30 releases.
