In the season 1 finale, "Red John's Footsteps", Patrick and Lisbon find her and get a description of Red John. In the second episode of season 4, "Little Red Book", Jane contacts Harker and brings her to a morgue where the body of Timothy Carter was kept. After feeling his face, she confirms Carter is not Red John.
Later, in season 3, Mashburn reappears, and at the end of the episode it is revealed that Lisbon liked Mashburn. Mashburn, who then leaves for Europe, has not reappeared in the series altogether. Red John is a fictional character and the primary antagonist of the CBS crime drama The Mentalist for the first five seasons and in the first half of the sixth season. As a serial killer, he is believed to have begun his killing spree in 1988, and has, with his operatives and acolytes, killed more than 70 people in California, Nevada, and Mexico.
