Georgia Harkness "A Song of Peace: A Patriotic Song", [1] [2] also known by its incipit, "This is my song", [3] is a poem written by Lloyd Stone (1912–1993). Lloyd Stone's words were set to the Finlandia hymn melody composed by Jean Sibelius in an a cappella arrangement by Ira B. Wilson that was published by the Lorenz Publishing Company in 1934.
The song expresses a yearning for peace. It mourns comrades who have fallen in battle, and claims to speak for the fallen. The lyrics take issue with the 'culture of bereavement', and with the glorification of war that allegedly exists in Israel.
Secretary of Defense Lewis Johnson read Stone's poem "Song of Peace" at Arlington Cemetery, and the poem was also read as part of the Punchbowl War Memorial Cemetery dedication ceremony and American Association of University Women's 1950 convention in Wichita, Kansas. [26] Ladybird Johnson recited the poem at the White House.
In 1934, Lloyd Stone wrote "This is my song", to the Finlandia tune, as an international song of peace. An expanded version with Christian themes by a later author appears in many hymnals. [6] Conductor Leopold Stokowski proposed using the melody for a worldwide anthem. [3]

The song was set to music by Yair Rosenblum [4] and was first performed in 1969 by the Infantry Ensemble (להקת הנחל) of the Israel Defense Forces as part of its Sinai Infantry Outpost program ...
