In 1986, Lamar was hired as head coach of the Mid-America Nazarene College men's basketball team. He guided the MidAmerica Nazarene Pioneers to the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship in 2007, [4] the championship game in 2001 and five more NAIA Final Four appearances (2006, 2008, 2009, 2014, 2016).
