Westport (formerly Beall's Landing) is an unincorporated community in Mendocino County, California, United States. [1] It is located on California State Route 1, near the Pacific Ocean, [2] 13 miles (21 km) north of Fort Bragg, [3] and at an elevation of 125 feet (38 m). [1] The first post office at Westport opened in 1879. [3]
Developed between 1910 and 1940, the Compo Beach area contains one of the largest assemblages of period resort architecture in Westport, and one of the best such collections in the region. The district, covering 154 acres (62 ha) south of Compo Road South, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
