The Irvine Company LLC is an American private company focused on real estate development.It is headquartered in Newport Beach, California, with a large portion of its operations centered in and around Irvine, California, a planned city of more than 300,000 people mainly designed by the Irvine Company.
Irvine borders Tustin to the north, Santa Ana to the northwest, Lake Forest to the east and southeast, Laguna Hills and Laguna Woods to the south, Costa Mesa to the west, and Newport Beach to the southwest. Irvine also shares a small border with Orange to the north on open lands by the SR 261.
The edge city's area is defined to include John Wayne Airport, the Irvine Business Complex (IBC), The District and The Market Place shopping centers, and the University of California, Irvine campus. [1] This larger definition extends into Newport Beach, Irvine, and Tustin.
The center was the brainchild of architect William Pereira and Irvine Company planner Ray Watson, with many of its buildings designed by Pereira and Welton Becket. The first building, at 400 Newport Center Drive, went up in 1967, with the majority of the center's buildings following in the 1970s, designed primarily in the International Style.
