Edgars was founded in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1929. [2] Its was named after London based Swann and Edgar. [2] Eli Ross opened his first Edgars store in Joubert Street. [2] It relocated to Cape Town in 1929 before returning to Eloff Street, Johannesburg in 1937, now owned by Sydney Press.
