Palisades Tahoe is a ski resort in the western United States, located in Olympic Valley, California, northwest of Tahoe City in the Sierra Nevada range. From its founding in 1949, the resort was known as Squaw Valley, but it changed its name in 2021 due to the derogatory connotations of the word "squaw".
The ski jump was designed in 1957 with construction beginning the following year. [3] It was completed the following year with trial events taking place in February 1959. [ 3 ] The jumps had calculation (K) points of 40 m (130 ft), 60 m (200 ft), and 80 m (260 ft), the first time in Olympic history that there were three ski jumps.
Squaw Valley, now called Palisades Tahoe, was a struggling ski resort with minimal facilities, which made its selection to host the 1960 Winter Olympics a surprise. In June 1948, the two founded the Squaw Valley Development Company [20] and Cushing replaced Poulsen as president of the Squaw Valley Development Corporation by October 1949.
