Hawkins newspaper ad for Universal branded coffee percolator, toaster, electrical iron, heating pad, curling iron and vacuum cleaner. Leonard George Hawkins started business in 1910.
The original cookers are marketed as 6-in-1 or more appliances designed to consolidate the cooking and preparing of food to one device (multicooker). The brand has since expanded to include non-pressure slow cookers, sous-vide immersion circulators, blenders, air fryers, and rice cookers.
Originally called "Northwestern Steel and Iron Works" the company changed its name to the "National Pressure Cooker Company" in 1929 and then National Presto Industries, Inc. 1953. [3] The company originally produced pressure canners for commercial, and later home, use. Beginning in 1939, the company introduced small home-use cooking appliances.
The process uses the company's marinades and coating to prepare chicken which is then fried in a Broaster Pressure Fryer by an employee with training from the Broaster Company. [ 13 ] [ 14 ] The Broaster Company licenses more than 5,000 restaurants, bars, and carryout locations in the United States with additional locations in 54 countries.
