The Douglas County Courthouse in Lawrence, Kansas is a three-and-a-half-story stone building erected in 1903. [2]It was designed by noted 19th-century architect John G. Haskell in association with another architect, Frederick C. Gunn.
Four properties are individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places: Old Lawrence City Hall, the old Douglas County Courthouse, the Eldridge House Hotel, and the US Post Office-Lawrence. The district includes a total of 136 resources, 99 of which are considered to contribute to the district.
The first building for the Lawrence Police Department was established in 1866, when the agency was founded. Around 1900 the department had a second location at the old city hall building. Between 1910 and 1920, the LPD maintained two vehicles and had four sworn police officers. In 1936, new uniforms were acquired for LPD officers.

Midland's base of operations was the depot built in 1906 by the AT&SF at 1515 High Street in Baldwin City. This building was added to the National Register of Historic Places listings in Douglas County, Kansas in 1983. Midland had received two matching federal grants to rebuild track. Private grants were used to rebuild railroad equipment.
