Doughiska now has a primary and secondary school serving the area. Doughiska also has a park, several playing pitches, basketball and tennis court as well as a skateboard park. The area is also served by two hospitals with Merlin Park University Hospital to the west and the private Galway Clinic to the east of Doughiska.
The hospital was founded by surgeons Joseph Sheehan and Jimmy Sheehan, who had established the Blackrock Clinic in Dublin. [2] It was built at a cost of €100 million and opened in June 2004. [ 3 ] It brought radiation therapy , cardiac surgery and PET / CT scanning to the west of Ireland for the first time.

McLoughlin announced his retirement on 23 May 2005 and on 3 July was succeeded as bishop of Galway and Kilmacduagh by Martin Drennan. He lived in Claregalway during his retirement, and died on 25 November 2005 in Galway Clinic. His funeral was held in Galway Cathedral, and he was interred in the crypt beneath the cathedral.

On 15 November 2024, Kenny died aged 67 from heart failure and lung cancer at the Galway Clinic in Ireland. [37] [38] [39] He had suffered from a heart attack on 10 November and never regained consciousness. [40] He was buried at the Lough Gur Cemetery on 19 November, after a funeral at St Patrick's Church, Patrickswell. [41] [42]
