The act ratifying the Treaty of Union was finally carried in the Parliament of Scotland by 110 votes to 69 on 16 January 1707, with a number of key amendments. News of the ratification and of the amendments was received in Westminster, where the Act was passed quickly through both Houses and received the royal assent on 6 March. [ 48 ]

The Kingdom of Great Britain was established on 1 May 1707, shortly after the parliaments of Scotland and England had ratified the Treaty of Union by each approving Acts of Union combining the two parliaments and the powers of the two crowns. Scotland's crown, sceptre, and sword of state remained at Edinburgh Castle.

The Repeal of Certain Scottish Acts (6 Ann. c. 36) was a repeal of several acts originating in the Scottish and English parliaments, supplementing the Acts of Union 1707, passed by the Parliament of Great Britain. The acts repealed included the Act of Security 1704 (c.3 (S)) and the Peace and War Act 1703 (c. 6) (S)).
