Shelbyville is a city in and the county seat of Bedford County, Tennessee. [6] The town was laid out in 1810 and incorporated in 1819. [7] Shelbyville had a population of 20,335 residents at the 2010 census. [8] The town is a hub of the Tennessee Walking Horse industry and has been nicknamed "The Walking Horse Capital of the World".
The Communications/Jail Division is divided into two sections: communications and jail. The communications section is responsible for handling incoming calls for service for the police department as well as for the fire and emergency medical services. Personnel assigned to the communications section are required to be trained to fill in as jailers.
The reserve unit is attached to the Patrol Division. The Patrol Division Commander, a Captain, also oversees the department's special operations, including SWAT, K9, Bomb Team, and Crash Reconstruction. Other Patrol Division functions include the field training program, in-service training management, and community resource services.
