Bhakta Raj Acharya (Nepali: भक्तराज आचार्य; 2 October 1942 – 26 February 2024), commonly referred to as Bhajan Shiromani, was a Nepali singer and music-composer, widely known as one of the greatest singers of all time in Nepal.
Bhajan refers to any devotional song with a religious theme or spiritual ideas, specifically among Dharmic religions, in any language. [1] The term bhajanam ( Sanskrit : भजनम्) means reverence and originates from the root word bhaj (Sanskrit: भज्), which means to revere , as in 'Bhaja Govindam' ( Revere Govinda ) .
Singing and composing music for songs of love, tragedy, devotion (bhajan) and patriotism, he pioneered many of the genres of modern Nepali music. He has composed music for around 1,200 Nepalese songs. He himself sang about three hundred songs. For these contributions Shankar received dozens of prestigious national awards.
