According to the United States Census Bureau, the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan statistical area has a total area of 10,062 square miles (26,060 km 2), of which 8,929 sq mi (23,130 km 2) are land and 1,133 sq mi (2,930 km 2) are covered by water.
