The population of Antigua and Barbuda, is predominantly black (91.0%) or mixed (4.4%). [1] 1.9% of the population is white and 0.7% East Indian. There is also a small Amerindian population: 177 in 1991 and 214 in 2001 (0.3% of the total population). The remaining 1.6% of the population includes people from the Middle East (0.6%) and China (0.2%).
Antigua and Barbuda is composed of six parishes and two dependencies. Saint John is the most populous parish, home to well over half of Antigua and Barbuda's population. [74] During colonial times, the parishes were governed by parish vestries, however, the parishes now lack any sort of government. [75]
The Outlet was a radical newspaper published in Saint John's, Antigua and Barbuda. The Outlet was founded in 1968. The newspaper was edited by Tim Hector and James Knight. It functioned as a weekly organ of the Antigua Caribbean Liberation Movement (ACLM). For the ACLM the newspaper played a very important role.
Saint John is surrounded by some of Antigua's most premier beaches. Saint John had a population of 56,736 in a 2018 estimate, making it home to the majority of the population in Antigua and Barbuda. [3] While Saint John is a civil administrative division, the Anglican parish church is located in the city of St. John's.
