Point Reyes (/ ˈ r eɪ. ɪ s / RAY-iss Spanish: Punta de los Reyes, meaning 'Cape of the Kings') is a prominent landform and popular tourist destination on the Pacific coast of Marin County in Northern California. It is approximately 30 miles (50 km) west-northwest of San Francisco.
Through a haze of salty fog, visitors can observe the thunderous ocean breakers washing over long sandy beaches and crashing into rocky cliffs. Point Reyes National Seashore covers over 100 square miles (260 km 2) and includes 3,300 acres (13 km 2) of coastal wilderness area. The undeveloped coastline stretches for 80 miles (130 km).
Drakes Estero, the landing spot of Francis Drake on the coast of North America in 1579 during his circumnavigation of the world is a National Historic Landmark. [13] [14] A historical marker has been placed on Drakes Beach near the Kenneth C. Patrick Visitor Center and monuments to Drake have been erected at the Drake's Cove landing site.
The main area, on the west, is part of the Point Reyes peninsula, and adjacent to Point Reyes National Seashore, which is operated by the U.S. National Park Service. The park is approximately 40 miles (64 km) north of San Francisco.

Abbotts Lagoon is a lagoon on the northwestern coast of the Point Reyes National Seashore, southwest of Tomales Point, in California, United States.The inland portion of the lagoon receives freshwater runoff, but the lagoon may be brackish from occasional winter tidal exchange along its western edge.
