Here are the volleyball terms you’ll hear most often. General Volleyball Terms. Ace: A winning serve that’s not successfully returned by the receiving team. Attack: Trying to hit the ball to the ground on the opponent’s side of the net.
Volleyball Glossary. Ace: A botched serve after which the opponent is awarded a point. Antenna: Vertical rods mounted above the sidelines and close to the edges of the net, and usually used for indoor courts. Approach: Moving quickly toward the net or ball in an attempt to make a play. Assist: Helping a teammate set up a kill.
Mintonette: The original name for the sport of volleyball. Out: The ball is out when it touches any surface, object or ground outside the court. Pass: Usually the first of three contacts on the offensive side; can be overhead or forearm.
