Small town local government in the agricultural community of Poetry, Texas. Texas welcomes its newest town--Poetry, TX.
Poetry was originally known as Turner's Point and was established in 1845. In 1876, the community was renamed Poetry. The new name was suggested by local merchant Maston Ussery, who said that the area in springtime reminded him of a poem.

2021: The Town of Poetry's First Mayor & Town Council. The Town of Poetry has elected its first government! These representatives were sworn into office during the Spring Festival on Saturday, May 15th, 2021 by Hunt County District Judge Andy Bench.
Adoption of Zoning Code. The Town Council for the Town of Poetry, Texas, will hold a Public Hearing to consider the adoption of a comprehensive zoning code and a comprehensive zoning map for the Town during its Regular Meeting on March 21, 2024, at 6:30 PM at Faith Temple Baptist Church, 11214 FM 1565, Poetry, TX. 75160.
