Marcellus is a village in Cass County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,074 at the 2020 census . [ 4 ] The village is located within Marcellus Township .
Marcellus Township is located in the northeast corner of Cass County in southwestern Michigan. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 34.9 square miles (90.3 km 2), of which 33.2 square miles (86.0 km 2) is land and 1.7 square miles (4.4 km 2), or 4.82%, is water. M-216 is a state trunkline highway in the US state of Michigan that serves as a connector route between M-40 at Marcellus and US Highway 131 (US 131). The highway runs through a rural area of the southwestern part of the state. It has been a part of the highway system since 1935; the current form of the roadway was finalized in 1939.
Carroll Sherman Jones was born in 1857, the son of Marcellus founder George Washington Jones and his wife Emma Brewster (whose nearby house is also on the National Register). [3] He went into his father's banking business, running the G.W. Jones Exchange Bank in Marcellus from its founding. [4] In 1891.
The George Washington Jones House is a private house located at 180 West Main Street in Marcellus, Michigan. It was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1986 [2] and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. [1]
