Orange Township is the location for the Mapleton Local School District buildings, which are at the southeast corner of county roads 801 and 620, about 3 miles north of Nankin.
Part of Orange Township was originally under the name of One-leg Township, Tuscarawas County (founded March 29, 1809, dissolved with formation of Carroll County). [5] One Leg was an early name for Conotton Creek , named after a one-legged Indian who lived along its banks.
