We internally have the debate (constantly) on the role of 2D drawings if 1) as integration of CAD and CAM tools becomes more tighter with 3D annotations etc. 2) additive manufacturing. Curious to know your guy's thoughts on this topic.

The corridor is used for the design, and to get the FG surface and the material quantities. But the production plans are developed as separate drawings. Because as others have said, it's a combination of that's how we used to do it in the past, and visually it just looks better anyway.
