The reaction rate is pH dependent, and slightly alkaline conditions achieved by adding a weak base, e.g. sodium salicylate, will produce brighter light.Developed by American Cyanamid in the 1960s, the formulation containing CPPO, a fluorescer, and a glass capsule containing hydrogen peroxide and a base catalyst, all in dialkyl phthalate solvents, was marketed as Cyalume.
A glow stick, also known as a light stick, chem light, light wand, light rod, and rave light, is a self-contained, short-term light-source. It consists of a translucent plastic tube containing isolated substances that, when combined, make light through chemiluminescence. The light cannot be turned off and can be used only once.
Diphenyl oxalate (trademark name Cyalume) is a solid whose oxidation products are responsible for the chemiluminescence in a glowstick. This chemical is the double ester of phenol with oxalic acid. Upon reaction with hydrogen peroxide, 1,2-dioxetanedione is formed, along with release of the two phenols. [2]
Chemiluminescence kites, [17] emergency lighting, glow sticks [18] (party decorations). Combustion analysis: Certain free radical species (such as • CH and • OH) give off radiation at specific wavelengths. The heat release rate is calculated by measuring the amount of light radiated from a flame at those wavelengths. [19] Children's toys ...
Although originally a manufacturer of agricultural chemicals, the company broadened its product lines into many types of industrial chemicals and specialty chemicals. The company then diversified into synthetic fibers, pharmaceuticals, surgical products, plastics, and inorganic pigments before World War II; and later added, by acquisitions, cosmetic and toiletry products, perfumes, building ...
TCPO, or bis(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl) oxalate, is a chemical used in some types of glow sticks and is a key chemical in many chemiluminescent reactions. TCPO is classified as damaging to human organs and toxic if inhaled with an inhalable toxicity of 3.02 mg/L and oral toxicity LD50 of 820 mg/kg (rat).
Aerolux Light Corporation was a manufacturer of artful gas-discharge light bulbs from the 1930s through the 1970s. [1] Aerolux made these bulbs in a factory in New York City . US Patents dating back to the 1930s describe the design and construction of these bulbs.
Light stick and Glow stick. Both terms are used depending on the quality of the stick. The light stick in a dark room you can see objects around you for a longer period than a glow stick. The glow stick is not made for lighting it is more of a party or toy item, not as bright and cheaper to manufacture. I have seen both.
