Arizona State Prison – Kingman is a privately run minimum/medium-security prison designed to hold 3500 prisoners. It is located in unincorporated Mohave County , Arizona , in Golden Valley . [ 1 ] [ 2 ] When the idea of the prison was being sold to the residents of Golden Valley it was promised that it would be a prison only for Dui offenders.
The jail serving the county in 2023, at 501 Historic Route 66 in Kingman, was built in 2010. It is a 688 bed county jail, about a half mile from the courthouse and 1909 jail. [ 7 ] [ 8 ]
There are currently 14 prison complexes and 2 correctional treatment facilities, for state prisoners in the U.S. state of Arizona.This number does not include federal prisons, detention centers for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or county jails located in the state.
[6] [7] They escaped the prison with the help of female accomplice Casslyn Mae Welch (born July 21, 1966), [5] a first cousin of McCluskey. She was on his visitation list and lived in Mesa, Arizona. [6] In June 2010, Welch had been arrested outside Kingman prison and accused of attempting to smuggle drugs in the prison, but was released. [8]

Due to control of the inmate population problems the contract for the prison has changed hands since its opening.
The men's death row is located in Browning Unit of Arizona State Prison Complex – Eyman, and also Central Unit of Arizona State Prison Complex - Florence. The women's death row is in the Lumley Unit of the Arizona State Prison Complex-Perryville. Executions occur at the Central Unit of the Arizona State Prison Complex – Florence.
