Intel hexadecimal object file format, Intel hex format or Intellec Hex is a file format that conveys binary information in ASCII text form, [10] making it possible to store on non-binary media such as paper tape, punch cards, etc., to display on text terminals or be printed on line-oriented printers. [11]
Below is the full 8086/8088 instruction set of Intel (81 instructions total). [2] These instructions are also available in 32-bit mode, in which they operate on 32-bit registers (eax, ebx, etc.) and values instead of their 16-bit (ax, bx, etc.) counterparts.
The 8086 [3] (also called iAPX 86) [4] is a 16-bit microprocessor chip designed by Intel between early 1976 [citation needed] and June 8, 1978, when it was released. [5] The Intel 8088, released July 1, 1979, [6] is a slightly modified chip with an external 8-bit data bus (allowing the use of cheaper and fewer supporting ICs), [note 1] and is notable as the processor used in the original IBM ...
x86 (also known as 80x86 [3] or the 8086 family [4]) is a family of complex instruction set computer (CISC) instruction set architectures [a] initially developed by Intel, based on the 8086 microprocessor and its 8-bit-external-bus variant, the 8088.
x86 assembly language has two primary syntax branches: Intel syntax and AT&T syntax. [6] Intel syntax is dominant in the DOS and Windows environments, while AT&T syntax is dominant in Unix-like systems, as Unix was originally developed at AT&T Bell Labs. [7] Below is a summary of the main differences between Intel syntax and AT&T syntax:
The following is a partial list of Intel CPU microarchitectures. The list is incomplete, additional details can be found in Intel's tick–tock model, process–architecture–optimization model and Template:Intel processor roadmap.
CH = Scan Row Start, CL = Scan Row End Normally a character cell has 8 scan lines, 0–7. So, CX=0607h is a normal underline cursor, CX=0007h is a full-block cursor. If bit 5 of CH is set, that often means "Hide cursor". So CX=2607h is an invisible cursor. Some video cards have 16 scan lines, 00h-0Fh. Some video cards don't use bit 5 of CH.
Dealing with larger addresses and more memory was thus comparably slower, as that capability was somewhat grafted-on in the Intel 8086. Memory segmentation could keep programs compatible, relocatable in memory, and by confining significant parts of a program's operation to 64 KB segments, the program could still run faster.
