Cars numbered 3050–3237 are configured into four-car sets, comprising 188 cars. Many of the four-car sets are assigned to the J and Z based out of East New York Yard, and the rest are assigned to the C based out of 207th Street Yard. The order replaced all remaining R32s and R42s, which dated to the 1960s and early 1970s.
