Prospects is a British television comedy-drama series written by Alan Janes and originally released on Channel 4 in 1986. The show was created by Euston Films, who were known for producing gritty dramas such as The Sweeney and Minder.

The first series run starts on 12 November and the programme runs for 37 years until August 2010. 6 January – Sesame Street, goes to air on UTV, the first time the series is transmitted on television in Northern Ireland. 9 January – BBC1 first airs the sitcom Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads?, starring James Bolam and Rodney Bewes.
The 23-episode series was produced by Euston Films, a wholly owned subsidiary of Thames Television, for the ITV network. Thames Television spent an estimated £500,000 to run newspaper and billboard advertisements to promote the series' launch which at the time was believed to be the largest advertising spend for a programme in the history of ITV.
The series will still be on the air, now being broadcast on S4C, 60 years later. [1] 5 January – Hanna-Barbera's popular family cartoon series The Flintstones debuts in the ITV London region. Other regions begin broadcasting the popular show later, with ITV North on 31 August.
