Alun Huw Davies was born in 1960 in Swansea, Wales to Stanley Charles and Vera Davies.Secondary education at Bishop Gore School, Swansea.In 1981 he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Cambridge (Emmanuel College) and four years later got his Master of Arts degree from the same place.

Gower (Welsh: Gŵyr) or the Gower Peninsula (Penrhyn Gŵyr) is in South West Wales and is the most westerly part of the historic county of Glamorgan, Wales. It projects towards the Bristol Channel. In 1956, the majority of Gower became the first area in the United Kingdom to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The hospital was commissioned to replace the aging East Glamorgan General Hospital. [1] It was built at a cost of £103 million and was opened at Ely Meadow ( Welsh : Gwaun Elai ) in 1999. [ 1 ] In 2017 the Hospital Board announced that the Special Care Baby Unit would be moved to Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil .

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board provides healthcare services mainly for the population of Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough and (from 1 April 2019) Bridgend County Borough. Cwm Taf Morgannwg NHS Trust's headquarters are in Ynysmeurig House, Navigation Park, Abercynon, Wales. [3]
The town also has a development of Offices, Hotel, Pub and a private Health facility which is located in Magden Park on the Ely Meadows alongside the A4119 Talbot Green to Ynysmeardy dual carriageway near the Royal Glamorgan Hospital. It also has the Avionics department of British Airways and is also the headquarters of the Welsh Blood Service.
