Annually, Gallery Stratford awards a scholarship to Perth Huron High School students who plan to study visual arts after high school. The Ela Moll Scholarship was founded by members of the Stratford Community and the Stratford Art Association to commemorate the death of Ela Moll (1950–1969).

Just before the Great Depression, there was a need for an Art Center for an ever growing demand for art and music classrooms and space for an art gallery on campus. Architect George F. Schreiber was hired to design the collegiate gothic style building, but was put on hold because the state of Indiana issued a state moratorium on spending in 1932.

In 1979, the Indiana General Assembly created the White River State Park Development Commission to create a new state park to celebrate Indiana, [10] and hosting a new site for the Indiana State Museum fit ideally with the commission’s plans. [11] The museum board approved a move to the White River State Park area in 1984. [12]
