The Cattaraugus Cutlery Company began as the New York distribution company J.B.F. Champlin and Son, founded by John Brown Francis Champlin and his son Tint in 1882. The Champlins expanded into knife production, and along with William R. Case and his brothers, they formed Cattaraugus Cutlery in 1886, based in Little Valley.
Cutco is a brand of cutlery and kitchen accessories directly marketed to customers through in-home demonstrations by independent sales representatives who are mostly college students. [ 4 ] [ 5 ] More than 100 kitchen cutlery products are sold under the Cutco name, as well as a variety of kitchen utensils , cookware , sporting, and outdoor knives.
The company's original factory in Little Valley, New York, burned down in 1912. [2] This resulted in the factory moving to Springville, NY. [2] Beginning with World War I, Case has made military knives for U.S. servicemen including the M3 Fighting Knife and the V-42 stiletto (the latter, for the Devil's Brigade).
