Azula then appears and traps Iroh, offering Zuko his honor if he joins her. Aang and Katara try to escape, but are attacked by Azula, the Dai Li and Zuko, who has made up his mind. Aang lets go of his attachment to Katara and enters the Avatar State, but as he does so he is shot and mortally wounded by Azula's lightning.
Azula and Ty Lee escape to watch the group's demise, but Mai intervenes at the last second to subdue the guards and allow their escape. Azula attacks Ursa and Zuko and tries to persuade Zuko to give up the throne. Zuko reaffirms his commitment to his destiny as Fire Lord as well as their relationship as brother and sister. Azula's emotional and mental resolve breaks, and she flees into the forest. Ursa chooses to have her memories and appearance restored by the spirit.
