Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13, commonly known as Sonata Pathétique, was written in 1798 when the composer was 27 years old and was published in 1799. Ferdinand Ries (baptised 28 November 1784 – 13 January 1838) was a German composer. Ries was a friend, pupil and secretary of Ludwig van Beethoven.He composed eight symphonies, a violin concerto, nine piano concertos (the first concerto is not published), three operas, and numerous other works, including 26 string quartets.
Sergei Prokofiev's Piano Sonata No. 8 in B ♭ major, Op. 84 is a sonata for solo piano, the third and longest of the three "war sonatas", with performances typically lasting around 30 minutes. He completed it in 1944 and dedicated it to his partner Mira Mendelson , who later became his second wife. [ 1 ]
The compositions for violin and piano D 384, 385 and 408 were named Sonata in Schubert's autographs. [ 5 ] [ 6 ] They were named Sonatina when published posthumously as Op. 137 in 1836. [ 7 ] Since these works are modest in size—rather to be compared to Mozart's violin sonatas than to Beethoven's —the "Sonatina" diminutive stuck to them.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Piano Sonata No. 8 in A minor, K. 310 / 300d, was written in 1778. The sonata is the first of only two Mozart piano sonatas in a minor key (the other being No. 14 in C minor, K. 457). It was composed in the summer of 1778 around the time of his mother's death, one of the most tragic times of his life. [1]
