York Housing Association is an independent, not for profit organisation founded in 1964. [1] [2] It provides a range of housing and support services to over 900 households and has over 660 tenancies in management in the Yorkshire and Humber region, with a current development programme of over £10m.

The organisation was founded in 1931 as the Scottish Youth Hostels Association (SYHA).. The first youth hostel in Scotland was a converted row of four cottages in Broadmeadows and opened on 2 May 1931.
