Gen. Gregorio del Pilar Elementary School began as Tondo's Escuela de Niños y Niñas established by the Cebuano entrepreneur Don Guillermo Osmeña in 1865. [31] The school was dedicated to the sons and daughters of indios who couldn't afford the private schools within the vicinity of Tondo. [32]
