If you use tables for two-dimensional graphics you might discover a "feature" in HTML that promotes grey hair. It can affect both rows and columns, depending on the use of either rowspan or colspan. In this 7-row table three cells are assigned a rowspan of 3, but the table totals 6 rows. Where is row 4? There is a row 5-4!
|+ Table caption adds the caption "Table caption" to the top of the table. A caption is optional, but recommended according to accessibility guidelines. |-adds a new row, which should be followed by the same number of cells found in other rows. Note, rowspan="2" and colspan="2" can be used on cells to span multiple rows and columns.
The table above (even if some more columns are added) maintains one line per country for narrower browser and screen widths. So it is therefore more readable and scannable in long country tables. The table format below can greatly increase in number of lines, and require more vertical scrolling, especially if more columns are added.

The table's horizontal scroll doesn't work with this template, so wide tables span outside of the main content area making the entire page wider and requiring you to instead horizontally scroll the entire page. Zooming out to see the entire table makes the headers sticky, but also makes the text smaller and less readable the wider the table is.
Note that a summary is not needed in most of Wikipedia's tables. The summary is useful when the table has a complex structure (for example, when there are several sets of row or column headers, or when there are multiple groups of columns or rows). The summary may also be helpful for simple data tables that contain many columns or rows of data.
