PSA: You don't need to do any of this to win the game even on the harder difficulties. This is just for the efficiency freaks who want to have everything perfect or people who are doing challanges and have to make every single square on an island count. Go ahead and build your islands for the looks and have fun.
The patch is only for Venice. The Venice expansion replaces the original game though, except for the main story campaign, which you have to play in the original Dawn of Discovery. My patch doesn't cover the campaign, so you'll have to endure all the grammar errors, missing quest texts, and other oddities during the campaign.
