Barreiro (European Portuguese pronunciation: [bɐˈʁɐjɾu] ⓘ) is a city and a municipality in the Setúbal District in Portugal. The population in 2021 was 78,345, [1] in an area of 36.39 km 2. [2] Barreiro has a view of the city of Lisbon from Avenida da Praia and a riverside area called Alburrica.
Barreiro is a railway station on the Alentejo Line that serves as a connection between rail services on the South Bank of the Tagus and Soflusa's river transport to Lisbon, Portugal. The first Barreiro station began operating on June 15, 1857, [1] although it was not inaugurated until February 1, 1861. [2]
The civil parish is located on the western coast of Portugal, and marked by Europe's extreme western extent: Cabo da Roca. Its contains the settlements Almoçageme, Atalaia, Azenhas do Mar, Azóia, Colares, Eugaria, Gigarós, Mucifal, Penedo, Praia das Maçãs and Ulgueira.
