The New York City Police Academy is the police academy of the New York City Police Department (NYPD). It is located in College Point, Queens. Within the organization of the New York City Police Department, the Chief of Training oversees the Training Bureau, which includes the Police Academy, the NYPD Cadet Corps, and other units. [1]
The New York City Police Department Cadet Corps is a form of internship with the New York City Police Department. The program is open to New York City residents who are enrolled in college and have completed 15 or more credits. Residents who have not yet completed a 15 credit requirement are able to join under certain circumstances.
The two programs were eventually combined to become the Police Athletic League of New York City. From 1914 to 1959, PAL was led by high-ranking NYPD officials. Since 1960, PAL has been managed by civilian Executive Directors, who have continued the tradition of cops helping kids helping communities.

The NYPD has a volunteer unit of the Highway Patrol Unit. This unit is called the New York City Police Department Auxiliary Police Highway Patrol Unit. The unit is made up of trained volunteer officers who assist the full-time Highway Patrol officers by patrolling the highways, parkways and main thoroughfares throughout the City of New York.
