Illinois Route 267 (IL 267) is a north–south highway in the U.S. state of Illinois. It runs from U.S. Route 67 (US 67) and Illinois Route 111 in Godfrey north to Illinois Route 104 and Business Interstate 72 (abbreviated BL 72) in Jacksonville .
As of 2007, I-72 has one business route; I-72 Business (I-72 Bus.) in Jacksonville. Near Valley City at mile-marker 42 are the Valley City Eagle Bridges. These two individual two-lane spans bridge the Illinois River in rural west-central Illinois. Near milemarker 78, a sign marks 90 degrees longitude.
Past Jacksonville, US 67 is joined by IL 104. [2] [3] US 67 in McDonough County. US 67 and IL 104 head to the west-northwest though Chapin and Bethel. Shortly thereafter, the four-lane highway reduces down to two lanes once again. The highways are then joined by IL 100 right before IL 104 splits away to the west.
The oldest segment of I-57 is a 6.2-mile (10.0 km) strip running east of Bradley to Kankakee labeled on the 1959 Illinois state highway map. [5] Two years later, a 33-mile (53 km) stretch of I-57 from Dongola north to Marion opened on September 26, 1961. [ 6 ]
Within a few years, most of IL 78 from Jacksonville to Warren was finished. [6] In 1935, IL 78 superseded portions of IL 82, IL 3, and IL 40. However, a section between Jacksonville and Virginia became part of US 67. [7] By the late 1930s, a portion of IL 78 was moved onto a more direct route between Maples Mill and West Havana. [8]
The original alignment followed (from south–north) what used to be part of IL 1, IL 140, IL 25, IL 44, IL 51, and IL 46 before terminating at US 12. [5] These state routes were eventually either truncated or removed as of 1935. [6] That same year, US 45 was extended north from Des Plaines, Illinois to Michigan.
